INNERGYM hits a century!

INNERGYM, Berkhamsted's exclusive personal training studio, prides itself on offering a service unlike any other.  One of its biggest surprises is the unique profile of its two new owners, Steve Allsop and Adrienne Barnes.  With most personal trainers barely out of their teens,  Steve and Adrienne are proud to have hit a century between them, and firmly believe this gives them a real edge when it comes to understanding clients' needs.

Steve, 52, began his involvement in fitness nine years ago after a heart attack forced him to reassess his life. He joined a large gym but felt that his individual circumstances did not suit the 'one size fits all' approach of most gym membership. After using a Personal Trainer he discovered how much more effective his workouts became.

'People often have the impression that you need to be young and fit to exercise, and you need to be a stereotype to be a Personal Trainer - which is so wrong.' says Steve. 'With my background I became convinced that a programme of personal training could quite literally give you a new lease of life and now I can use my own personal experiences to design programmes that really work – and don't frighten the life out of the client!'

Steve became so convinced that he had something unique to offer that he left his previous high pressure car sales role to qualify as a Personal Trainer. After a successful period at Esporta he then moved on to setting up his own business with a colleague, Adrienne Barnes.

Adrienne, 48, was originally a company director working in the construction industry. When she left to start a family, what had always been a weight problem became serious and she joined the one in five of the population defined as clinically obese.

'This was really scary and I knew I couldn't fight the problem on my own. I dropped the fad diets and started eating healthily and going to the gym,' said Adrienne.' This made me feel a lot better, but didn't have the immediate effects that I had hoped for. I started to use a Personal Trainer and began to see benefits immediately . By the end of the first course I was hooked, and by the end of the second course I had discovered a new career!'

Now, she helps other people to lose weight, and more importantly - keep it off - and she feels that her life experience helps her to understand the difficulties that real people face.

Adrienne and Steve are delighted to be running INNERGYM, and between them have complementary skills on the gym floor. Steve has a real understanding of core work, balancing and fitball, whilst Adrienne particularly enjoys weight training – and with a mutual love of running, cycling and swimming they make up a partnership which offers a less intimidating and more realistic approach to the business of fitness.

As Steve says, 'Both Adrienne and I had to hit a very serious point in our lives before we discovered the fun in fitness – and whilst there aren't too many personal trainers with grandchildren out there, there's always the advantage that there can't be many children with grandparents who can outrun them!'

Hot New Fitness System from US Comes to Town!

INNERGYM, Berkhamsted's exclusive personal training studio, is the first and only gym in the area to offer clients the exciting, new Gravity™ system - making exercise more effective, more fun and less time consuming.

The Gravity™ system is the hottest functional fitness programme sweeping the US. It uses the pull of gravity to work the body's key muscle groups on an incline, using different planes to increase muscle development and make the body stronger, leaner and more flexible.

Steve Allsop and Adrienne Barnes, new owners of INNERGYM since February, are committed to offering a range of the latest, state of the art equipment in their studio. Said Adrienne, 'We became interested in the Gravity™ system when we heard rave reviews from other Personal Trainers we had met. People from all over the world have found it a fun, less-intimidating alternative to traditional training methods – and because it works more muscle fibres at any one time it delivers a full body workout in only thirty minutes. We are very excited to have brought this equipment over from the US and look forward to offering our clients a totally new personal training system.'

The Gravity™ system uses a unique combination of glide boards, pulleys and a progressive incline and is adjustable to eight different levels of resistance. It engages all major muscle groups and allows more than 250 strength, stretching and Pilates based exercises.  In only thirty minutes Gravity™ training provides a low intensity cardiovascular workout that burns fat, builds strength, improves flexibility and keeps the heart pumping.

New Kids on the Block

Berkhamsted now has its own exclusive personal training studio, offering both one to one personal training expertise and an exciting and innovative range of classes specifically designed to for all ages and fitness goals.

Adrienne Barnes and Steve Allsop became the new owners of INNERGYM in February and have lost no time in building on the reputation INNERGYM already enjoyed in the town, by introducing new ideas, new classes and exciting new equipment.

Adrienne and Steve met when they were both Personal Trainers at Esporta. Steve said, 'We were really enjoying our day to day work in the gym, but felt that we wanted to offer people a more bespoke service with specialised equipment and a unique, relaxed environment. We were very excited when the opportunity to take over INNERGYM arose and we are looking forward to offering our clients the motivation, advice and encouragement to help them reach their fitness goals with a different and fresh approach.'

This new partnership has enabled Adrienne and Steve to use their specialist expertise and advanced qualifications to develop a programme of classes which combines the classic essentials with their newly introduced Lifestage classes.  From Easter, INNERGYM will offer specially tailored classes for the over 50s, and Antenatal classes, as well as  as continuing to offer the popular Pilates and Yoga.

With a range of new equipment imported from the US, INNERGYM is offering clients a unique exercise experience. Said Adrienne, 'This new generation of equipment makes exercise more effective, more enjoyable and less time consuming. As well as offering the time saving benefits of the VibroGym we are also the only gym in the area to offer the GRAVITY system. People from all over the world have found it a fun, less-intimidating alternative to traditional training methods, and it's great to have it here!'

INNERGYM can be found off Berkhamsted High Street, is available before, during and after business hours and offers private parking.
